Oh April - how quickly it seems to have come around this year! With the world on lock-down, I've found myself more drawn then ever to simply sitting and delving into books for hours on end. Whilst the current world situation is awful, and terrifying, I've been attempting to utilise this new-found time for good as much as possible. Some days, this means just letting myself sleep in and spending the whole day watching TV shows on Netflix, whilst on others I find the motivation to spring clean my whole house. The one constant, however, is the niggling desire to write.
Luckily for me, National Poetry Writing Month - or NaPoWriMo - has finally begun and with it comes the desire to brush aside all the excuses I've been making and sit down with a cup of tea, a notebook, and a poetry prompt. Whilst the official NaPoWriMo prompts can be found at www.napowrimo.com, I have found myself more compelled to keep up with NaPoWriMo when I build the prompts myself. With themed weeks running through the month, I like to create prompts directly related to literature which already exists out in the world - tangible works which can be consumed in order to help spark new or broader ideas.
I thought I'd share my first weeks' prompt list with you, so that you can get involved! These prompts will also be being posted daily over on my Facebook page - just search Alex the Poet. I'll be posting my writings over on my Instagram account - @alex.the.poet.
If you'd like to use these prompts, please feel free! And if you share them on social media, tag my pages so that I can come along and read them! Enjoy the prompts, and don't forget to come back next week for more:
Peace and love,
